Infotel UK gets parent company investment to develop GDPR tool – Deepeo

A North East firm has received investment of more than £1m from its parent company to develop new technology that will help businesses with GDPR obligations.

Newcastle-based Infotel UK Consulting has received a pledge of €1.5m (£1.26m) investment over the next three years from global software publisher Infotel SA to help fund the development and execution of the Deepeo project.

The software – which will be launched at the Information Records Management Society conference in Birmingham at the end of November – is billed as the UK’s first comprehensive automated package that offers tailored cloud-based services to protect supply chain accounts, increase security and permission controls, and limit access to confidential information.

It was originally developed by Infotel UK for Newcastle bank Virgin Money to bring automation and scalability to its complicated GDPR requirements. Infotel UK acquired the software IP from Virgin Money after seeing its success and realising the value it could have.

Infotel UK managing director Mundeep Nayyar said: “There have been many inspired software packages available since GDPR came into force, which largely concentrate on only one aspect of compliance per system in the EU or that have to be implemented manually, which can be costly and time-consuming as well as leaving businesses vulnerable without a fully safeguarded solution.

But while GDPR is an EU law, it applies to any company that makes its website or services available to EU citizens, including US companies, so anyone can fall foul to data breaches.

“Deepeo helps companies manage all aspects of their business more effectively by offering a full range of powerful features which are not currently available elsewhere. Our commitment is to continuously develop the software, automatically upgrade, and provide support so that all data remains secure to match market demand and regulatory requirements.”

The UK GDPR and DPA 2018 set a maximum fine of £17.5m or 4% of annual global turnover – whichever is greater – for breaches of the regulations. Several multinational corporations have been issued with hefty fines for breaking the rules.

Infotel says that its Deepeo software can also link up to companies’ existing systems without any manual intervention.

Infotel UK started operating in 2015, delivering custom-made software and applications that help businesses improve their operations. It is a subsidiary of Infotel SA (France), a €235m turnover group listed on the Euronext Paris Exchange. The Infotel Group has 20 offices across Europe and the US.
