Infotel has recently developed a set of smart DB2 utilities in order to add intelligence and automation to efficiency. These utilities automate the management of your DB2 databases. Today Master-Util includes MasterReorg and MasterCopy. Each product may be installed separately or together according to your needs. However, if both components are installed, they communicate together providing a unique way to best utilize the batch window.
MasterReorg
Even using the fastest utilities, there are usually too many objects to reorganize within a limited batch window. Therefore it is important to reorganize the objects which would most benefit from it.
Infotel’s creative reorganization strategy
Including all the features (and more) of InfoReorg (Infotel’s fast reorganization utility), MasterReorg will intelligently and automatically reorganize your DB2 tablespaces and indexspaces.MasterReorg only needs 3 parameters (a list of candidate objects for reorganization, a threshold value and the time available).
Exploiting all available resources and starting with the most disorganized objects, MasterReorg commences concurrent processings to ensure the reorganization of the maximum number of objects within the time allowed.Furthermore, a unique dynamic planning feature ensures optimum utilization of the whole schedule.
MasterCopy
Recoveries in a complex DB2 environment can be time consuming and error-prone due to the interaction of the many objects involved (copies, logs, etc.).The correct availability of all resources for recovery is therefore vital.
Infotel’s smart copy management
MasterCopy automatically manages the backup copies of DB2 tablespaces (alloc and delete) according to the restore criteria that are defined on the site while considering the batch window constraints. MasterCopy automatically selects the objects to be saved according to the generic criteria of names, the need to perform the backup and the estimated duration. MasterCopy surveys all backup executions and informs about any abnormalities.Furthermore, MasterCopy simultaneously handles the Full Image Copies and the Incremental Image Copies.According to specified parameters, backup copies may be considered as being mandatory, optional or unnecessary.
